WP6 - Persistent identifiers

"Digital Object Identifiers" (DOI) are increasingly becoming the de facto standard as unique, durable, citable identifiers for publications and research data. Most of the participating partner institutions currently face the challenge of being able to offer their researchers the option of linking their publications and published data with DOIs. In Austria, there is currently no central registry that issues DOIs; however, individual solutions are already in use or under construction at individual institutions.

A first goal is to create a basis for deciding whether a central solution in the sense of an Austrian National DOI Desk, decentralized individual solutions via direct contracts of the institutions with DOI providers or any other solutions are to favor.

In addition, know-how in the area of DOI policies and other persistent identifiers such as ORCIDs is built up.
